Vice President Cai Yonglian Visited Universities and Education Authorities in Laos and Other Countries.

From April 3 to 12, Vice President Cai Yonglian led a delegation to visit partner institutions and educational authorities in Laos, Cambodia and Nepal, aiming to implement the national strategy of “Belt and Road”, strengthen cooperative relations with universities in neighboring countries, and pragmatically promote high-quality openness and cooperation with the outside world, with a focus on the work of international students studying in China, scientific research cooperation and joint cultivation. It focuses on international students studying in China, scientific research cooperation and joint cultivation. The delegation was accompanied by relevant personnel from the Office of International Affairs Office, Hujiang College and Sino-British College.

During the stay in Laos, the delegation visited the National University of Laos (NUL), which is the most famous, the largest and the highest level comprehensive university in Laos, and was received by Vice President O. Sivanpheng, who led the Office of International Affairs and other heads of departments, and the two sides had a friendly meeting, and under the guidance of the “One Belt, One Road” Initiative. Under the guidance of the “Belt and Road” initiative, the cooperation between China and Laos in the field of education has made great progress, and USST will further promote the cooperation with the National University of Laos and make more contributions to the friendship between China and Laos in the field of talent cultivation. On behalf of USST, Cai Yonglian signed the Memorandum of Understanding of Inter-university Cooperation with Sivanpheng and awarded the National University of Laos as the quality student base of USST, hoping that in the near future, there will be young students from Laos studying and exchanging in USST. During its stay in Laos, the delegation also visited the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI), where K. Sisavong, Vice President of LNCCI, and his party met with the delegation of USST and discussed short-term training for technical staff of enterprises. The delegation visited V. Sivongxay, Director General of the Department of Study Abroad of the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos. The members of the delegation introduced the situation of USST from the aspects of university profile, development of academic disciplines and specialties, internationalization, enrollment and cultivation of international students, and campus life, etc., and the two sides had positive talks on further cooperation.

During its stay in Cambodia, the delegation visited the National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia, the Royal University of Phnom Penh, Cambodia and the Cambodian Public Chong Cheng School. At the National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia, the delegation visited the Robotics Laboratory, Water Treatment Laboratory and Urban Architecture Laboratory. P. Kimtho, President of the National Polytechnic of Cambodia, and Cai Yonglian introduced the basic overview and history of their respective universities, exchanged views on scientific research cooperation and international students, and Cai Yonglian signed a Memorandum of Understanding of Inter-university Cooperation with the National Polytechnic of Cambodia on behalf of USST. At the Royal University of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the delegation was received by President C. Chealy and Vice President O. Ravy and relevant department heads, discussed the joint construction of the Maritime Silk Road Research Center and the construction of international student bases, and signed a memorandum of understanding of inter-university cooperation. The delegation also visited Cambodian Public Chongzheng School, met with the Chinese principal Kao Wen Sheng, and authorized Cambodian Public Chongzheng School as a high quality source secondary school of USST.

During the stay in Nepal, our delegation visited Nepal Global Science and Technology Education Association (NGSTEA), Nepal Medical Education Council (NMEC) and Kathmandu University (KU). Kathmandu University of Nepal is a famous public university in the country, with the Prime Minister of Nepal as its honorary chancellor, and the university has outstanding performance in the fields of engineering and medicine. Executive Vice Chancellor A. Wagle led the deans of the Faculty of Management, Engineering, Arts and Science to receive the delegation. The two sides discussed matters such as international students studying in China and student exchanges, etc. On behalf of USST, Cai Yonglian signed the Memorandum of Understanding of Inter-university Cooperation with Kathmandu University and talked with teachers and students. In Nepal Global Science and Technology Education Association, L. Raj introduced an overview of the association and discussed with the delegation about the establishment of joint talent cultivation between universities and enterprises. At Nepal Medical Education Council, the Director of Accreditation Department introduced the functions of the Medical Education Council and exchanged views with the delegation on the study of Nepalese students in China.

This visit focused on promoting in-depth cooperation between USST and universities and education authorities in Laos, Cambodia and Nepal in the fields of international students studying in China, talent cultivation and joint scientific research, which will lay a good foundation for the development of high-quality international education programs of USST in the “Belt and Road” countries.
