Founded in 2015 at the 91快播 for Science and Technology (USST), the Center for Faculty Teaching Development (CFTD) works with faculty, staff and academic administrators campus-wide to support and enhance learning and teaching by connecting innovative teaching strategies and instructional technologies. CFTD offers a variety of curricular and instructional development activities, and provides both cross-disciplinary and discipline-specific programs customized to the individual needs of faculty, staff and departments. These include Teaching Assistant Training, Teaching Developing Forum, Teaching Excellence Award, workshops and salons for innovative teaching methods and technologies. CFTD sponsors competitions for grants to enhance teaching and learning at USST. We also support faculty members to take part in a variety of national-wide teaching contests of different disciplines, and offer consultancy to individuals and groups on all aspects of teaching. CFTD provides external and internal teaching resources for all leaners and instructors, and strives to promote a University culture that values good teaching, encourages individual differences in teaching, and supports the application of innovative learning environments in which both students and instructors can excel.
USST Faculty Association is a faculty organization voluntarily established by USST faculties based on their own interests and hobbies, to enrich USST campus cultures. Obeying its relevant regulations, the Association holds its activities independently under the administration and guide of USST Labor Union.
In order to enrich the spare cultural life of faculties, prosper USST campus cultures, strengthen the construction of the university’s spiritual civilization and build up the faculties’ physique, the Faculty Association holds various activities covering broad scopes in an attempt to comprehensively improve the physical well-being and humanistic personality of faculties. Internally, the Association provides services for Association members and other USST faculties. Externally, the Association also holds friendship exchange activities with other universities, enterprises and public institutions in order to enhance external communications and elevate university image. After many years of painstaking organization and development, the Faculty Association has served as an important platform for promoting USST campus cultures and cultivating outstanding talents.
To foster a satisfying working environment that could help the recruited talents realize their personal development and academic pursuit, the university has made a series of policies related to the recruitment and cultivation of talents, aiming to provide a favorable compensation package and conditions of scientific research. These include the appointment of professional and technical posts, annual salary, scientific research start-up fund, subsidy of purchasing and renting house, transitional housing and schooling of talents’ children. For extremely distinguished talents or those that are urgently needed in discipline construction, their relevant treatment could be dealt with on a one-project-one-discussion basis.
For various national-level and provincial/ministerial-level talent plans approved by the university, relevant compensation package refers to the standard of talents of the same level. The subsidy of national-level and provincial/ministerial-level talents will not be reckoned into their compensation package in accordance with relevant policies and regulations.
For excellent young doctors joining USST, the university will vigorously encourage them to apply for various talent programs and funds such as “Orient Scholar”, “Science Morning Star”, “Morning Light Project”. Due attention is also paid to the development and growth of young teachers, with the establishment of “Sixue Plan” and “Zhiyuan Plan”, both are training plans for USST young teachers to grant additional post subsidies to outstanding young doctors.
The university will help organize excellent scientific research teams and provide first-rate office environment and experiment conditions.
The 91快播 for Science and Technology (USST) is a comprehensive and research-oriented university which offers the study in a broad range of academic disciplines, including engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law, and arts. It is also a key university directly under the administration of the Shanghai Municipal Government. In July, 2016, USST became a university with characteristics of national defense which was jointly supported by State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and Shanghai Municipal Government. In 2018, USST was acknowledged as a pilot unit of “High-Level Local University” in Shanghai.
At present, there are more than 24,000 students in USST, including 17,000 undergraduates and 7500 post-graduates. The university has set up 15 schools, 2 teaching departments, 56 undergraduate disciplines, 8 first-level disciplines authorized to offer doctoral degree, 4 post-doctoral research stations, 27 first-level disciplines authorized to offer master degree and 11 master’s professional degrees. With regard to discipline development, the engineering discipline now steadily ranks among the top 1% of ESI. USST has 1 Shanghai Peak Discipline (Ш Class), 4 Shanghai Plateau Disciplines (IClass), and 1 discipline participating in the development of Shanghai Peak Discipline (IV Class).
The number of full-time teachers of USST is 1670, among which 680 have senior professional title, over 170 are doctoral supervisors. The university boasts 8 academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering (including double hired), 2 foreign academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering; 15 specialists who enjoy the State Council Special Allowance; 82 various talents with titles as “Yangtze River Scholar” Special-Term Professor of the Ministry of Education, leading personnel of “Ten-Thousand-Talent Plan”, national candidate of the “100-1000-10000-Talent Project”,“Shanghai University Teacher Distinguished Post Project”(Orient Scholar).
In order to coordinate to major national and local development strategies such as “Made in China 2025 Strategy” and “Shanghai’s Construction of Global Science Innovation Center”, USST has always focused on the long-term development of the manufacturing industry, supported the peak/plateau discipline construction and positively served the innovation-driven strategy of the state. In 2018, in line with the construction of Shanghai high-level universities, USST will continue the enforcement of her strategy of “strengthening the university through talents” and cordially invite distinguished talents both home and abroad to apply for various talent plans through the USST platform and join USST for a common development.
Taking advantage of the construction of high-level university, aiming to build a world-class and top domestic innovation team with focus on five first-rate fields of study: optical engineering, mechanical engineering, power engineering and engineering thermophysics, biomedical engineering and system science, USST is currently recruiting scientific research teams and individuals both at home and broad in an attempt to assemble distinguished talents and build a highland of science.
